Taken from wiki:
The game will also not be a sequel or prequel to any of the games in the EverQuest franchise; it is planned to present to players a "parallel world" of Norrath, one in which some of the locations and characters may be familiar, but specific relationships and events can diverge from the official storylines of the other games. The developers have stated an intention to return to a style of gameplay more like the original EverQuest, while retaining the advances in MMORPG design that have developed in the years since that game first launched.
Could be great ...
What do you think?

Looking at the graphics, it could almost be WOW. I do hope they don't go for the WOW cartoon feel and end up with the same (although improved) style of graphics they currently have.
I can't imagine why they insist on doing this in "a parallel Norrath". I get the impression it's so they don't have to worry about interfering with the current Lore of EQ and EQ2, but if that's the case, why not just break completely from Norrath and put it somewhere else? Let's face it, Qeynos and Freeport "in a parallel world" are still going to be compared to Qeynos and Freeport in the current world.

Those graphics look so much like WoW.
I'm guessing it's a bunch of bs that it's going to be more like EQ.
What made EQ special was the danger and the consequences. If you died it was a pita to get your body back sometimes, you lost xp and could even lose levels if you weren't careful. To get to camps, dungeons or just to different zones you had to carefully work your way past mobs that could kill you.
In the beginning it was a fun but challenging game. That along with the uniqueness of the classes, the sheer size of the game and the forced interaction amongst players is what made EQ a legend and a great game.
I'd be very surprised if they brought back any of that stuff. People whine about mobs being too hard, not being able to solo, taking too long to get places etc. already in the EQ2 community. Judging by their choice of graphics, they're going after some of the WoW players, which in my experience are 10x more whiny.
